ILWU Locals 13, 63, and 94 come together with the community and “Walk the Coast” to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation whose mission it is to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer and to raise funds to research new treatments and cures. Alexandra “Alex” Scott was diagnosed with cancer just before her first birthday and every year from ages 4 to 8, before she passed, she set up a front-yard lemonade stand to give money to doctors to help them find a cure to help save other children. As news spread of this remarkable child’s story, people everywhere were inspired to help donate to her cause. The ILWU’s “Walk the Coast” fundraiser encourages the community to empower themselves like Alex and make a difference for children with cancer. In 3 years of fundraising, ILWU Walk the Coast has raised over $200,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and has been honored as a “Top 100 Fundraiser” for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation each year.
