ILWU Local 63, along with Locals 13, 94, the ILWU Southern California Pensioners, and ILWU Federated Auxiliary #8, fund and participate in the ILWU’s annual “Feed the Community Day” for needy families in the Harbor area. The ILWU hands out 70-pound baskets, which can feed as many as 10 people. These baskets typically include a whole 12-pound turkey, cornbread, fresh fruit, vegetables, and other items. The ILWU does this out of a desire to help families in the community to help put food on the table.
