ILWU Local 63 along with ILWU Locals 13, 26, 94 and the ILWU Federated Auxiliary Number 8, ILWU Southern California Pensioners, and Longshore Memorial Association band together to make possible a happy holiday season for thousands of struggling families. Members, pensioners, and auxiliary clubs partner with local charity groups to donate toys, money, and time to help approximately 3,000 kids have a happy holiday season. The Children’s Christmas Party coordinates volunteers that include ILWU members, children, and teens who set out rows of toys and sports equipment in the ILWU Memorial Hall. The hall is filled with Christmas music as children file in to pick a toy of their choice and are treated to cookies, punch, face painting, and a visit from Santa Claus. A Holiday Events Committee works year-round to plan and organize the holiday charity events.
