Attention Members: ILWU-PMA 401(k) distribution option changes under the CARES Act.

Attention Members:

The ILWU Coast Committee has notified the Longshore Division locals that the ILWU-PMA 401(k) Savings Plan has been amended to allow our participants to seek distributions up to $100,000 if they have experienced economic hardships  due to COVID-19 (please click to read Coast Committee memo below).  As stated in the memo, the PMA is in the process of mailing letters to all participants with more details regarding CARES Act distributions.  Those wishing to learn more about these distributions can do so by logging into Fidelity’s website at www.netbenefits.com or calling (800) 761-ILWU (4598).

As stated in the memo, questions regarding any tax implications of taking such distribution should be directed to your tax professional.

We would like to thank Sister Cheryl Lowe #38432 for her work advocating on this issue.

Fraternally,

The Officers of ILWU Locals 13, 63, and 94 are working diligently to ensure the safety of ILWU members in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach during this ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic.  Through our work, the PMA and its employers have begun implementing measures to sanitize our work environments and order sufficient supplies of personal protective equipment (e.g. masks, gloves, etc.).

In addition, effective immediately, the Joint Port Relations Committees (JPLRCs) in the Ports of LA and Long Beach are requiring all ILWU members to wear face coverings pursuant to national and local mandates an guidance.

NEW TEMPORARY PHONE DISPATCH & CHECK-IN TIMES & PROCEDURES

Attention Members:

As we stated earlier today, March 18, we will be going to a phone check in and dispatch procedure effective with night dispatch on Thursday, March 19th.  Below this message, there are links to documents reflecting the dispatch times for each shift.

We know this is a major change to business as usual but we are in challenging times.  We are tasked with doing everything possible to prevent, or at least slow down, the spread of this virus amongst our membership and at the same time keeping dispatch open and members working.  As you are aware, we didn’t have the luxury to take our time developing this temporary process, so we are sure that as we implement it, there will need to be adjustments.  We ask for your patience and understanding as we all work through this together.

Please review the Daily Work Request Sheets (posted online under “Dispatch” at www.ILWU63.net) ahead of time and make sure that you are available to answer the phone when the Dispatcher calls.  This process will only work if we can move through everyone quickly and efficiently, so we need your help.

In Solidarity,

The Local 63 Officers
